My Thoughts: Health Care Reform Now

With raising costs and lower wages, it seems as if regular folks are making drastic choices in order to survive. As I was surfing the net, i ran into a headline which read: "Medical Bills Drove Man to Kill Wife." His wife was suffering from uterine cancer and neurological problems. Her caregiver stated that the 47 year old woman was down to 75 pounds.

In another story, a California woman had to file bankruptcy due to medical bills. She battled cancer twice and was left with numerous medical bills. Yes, she had insurance, but change providers and the medical facility did not reflect this change in her files. She was left owing $16,771.73 - this amount included the $7,000 maximum out of pocket expense cap.

This lady was doing fine, paying her bills on time, and living in a modest home. Now, she is living paycheck to paycheck. In a 2005 study, more than 1.5 million people filed for bankruptcy in 2001 and get this, most had health insurance.

What is wrong with this picture?

Congress were are you? You promised that you would take care of the health care system, increase minimum wage, AND get our troops out of Iraq. You said you would do this if we, the American people, voted for you. Well, we did and in the words of Janet Jackson, what have you done for us lately?
